A rendered walk through of the vertical garden tower at the New Malt Kiln, as imagined for my Master of Architecture thesis project. Modeled in Revit and rendered in Lumion. This video begins on Level 2, with glimpses of the office wing in the new western addition, moving to the eastern side of the building where the kitchen prep, storage, and keg storage areas are located. Then it begins the upward journey through the vertical garden tower. The garden is intended to be experiential as well as functional, with the possibility to design any kind of indoor garden layout needed for various types of growing mediums. Special hops planters line the edges, spanning multiple stories to allow for optimal space for hops growth, which can then be processed and utilized in the Malt Kiln's microbrewery. The vertical garden is intended to be an asset to the community - it could provide fresh produce year round in an area that is on the edge of a food desert, plots could be assigned to individuals for personal use, demonstrations could be hosted to educate the community about produce growing, etc. It may not be solving world hunger, but it could be a great asset. And of course, it looks good while serving its purpose.

This video begins as you exit the stairwell into the main event hall, and ends in the four seasons event room, shown in this video staged for a party. This was so much fun to put together, with the colored lights in the four seasons room, the neon signs, and the 3D textured wall panels (@MDC-IS Crack Me Up in Gold, which appears to now be discontinued, but was not at the time I chose it :( ), and the Lasso chandelier from SkLO, which I thought resembled transfer tubing in the brewing process. Modeling all of these elements was a challenge, but I had a great time learning some new tricks.

This video details a different view of the entry, the first glimpse of the vertical garden, the mezzanine overlooking the lounge, and the mini exhibit space in the entry intended to display images and artifacts about the Lemp Brewery. Note: after this video was finished processing, I noticed a rogue structural support. It's too late to fix it for my thesis presentation tomorrow, so I am choosing to leave it for this upload as well.

This video details the ground floor, starting at the grand entry and moving through the preserved original entry to the building, then to the private tasting room, and finishing in the lounge at Lemp's Kiln, the remaining kiln structure turned bar.

A rendered walk through of the Grand Entry to the New Malt Kiln, as imagined for my Master of Architecture thesis project. Modeled in Revit and rendered in Lumion. This video details the main entrance to the new addition to the building, where visitors are greeted with a grand monolithic staircase leading to the floor above. The staircase is bordered on one side by decorative pipes attached to the railing, emulating the piping that was once an integral part of the entire brewery complex. The other side of the staircase is bordered with reclaimed bricks from the building's collapse, held in place by metal mesh and structural members. The floor is polished concrete, with an inset to show off additional reclaimed materials from both the Malt Kiln and other deteriorating areas of the complex, topped with a glass floor system that is smooth and level. Integrated lighting highlights these reclaimed materials. Looking up, you see a custom glass chandelier hinting at the hops flower.

A rendered walk down Cherokee Street starting at Lemp Avenue, approaching the New Malt Kiln. The glass facade screen is an abstracted version of a hops flower, and is intended to contrast the historic brick while drawing attention to the building. This design is a billboard of sorts, advertising that beer is here, hence the hops reference. The addition you see as you approach in this video is new, and extends out past the original footprint of the building. It is designed to be minimalistic in finishes, to highlight the hops structure. The simplistic design acts as a backdrop to the surrounding historic brick and really makes it pop. Modeled in Revit (using Forma for the initial topography and site context) and rendered in Lumion.
